Quick Way to Make a Numbered List

Sometimes you want a list of ordered numbers in your spreadsheet.
I often use to help keep the order of my rows, since sorting ascending or descending on the numbered list easily puts your spreadsheet back to it’s “default” order after having sorted it on another column.

Instead of typing in the numbers from 1 to 10, we can simply only input two numbers and let Calc do the rest!

Column A has sequential numbers starting from 1.

To get this result with minimal typing, all we need to do is first type in the first two numbers 1 and 2.

Then, all we need is to select both cells, click the lower right corner of the cell, and click and drag straight down and release your mouse.

Click and drag in action. My mouse pointer is near row 18 (not pictured).

Once you release your mouse, the numbers are populated for you. This will also work for even numbers, or odd numbers. Simply input the first two numbers in the sequence you want, and do the click & drag method!
This also works if you want to start the list with a higher value such as 100, instead of 1.

Make numbered list for even and odd numbers.

Try it out and see what sequences you can create in your spreadsheet!

Installing LibreOffice Using Ninite

There are a plethora of ways to install LibreOffice, and each one has it’s benefits for various operation systems or environments.

One of the best ways I’ve found to install LibreOffice for Microsoft Windows is to use a tool called Ninite (Read the review of it on Lifehacker). It’s simply a small program that will handle installation, and also upgrades, whenever you run it.

Ninite’s website. Choose LibreOffice (at least) and click Get Your Ninite.

The simplest way is to head to Ninite’s website, and then select LibreOffice out of all the choices. It’s listed under the Documents section. Then on the bottom of the page, click Get Your Ninite, and the small program will be prompted to be saved. Go ahead and pick a location on your computer that you will remember.

Then go ahead and run it, or navigate to your saved location and double click the program Ninite LibreOffice Installer.exe and it will start. Windows may as you to allow Ninite to install the program, and click yes to proceed. After that, there are no dialogs or anything else to click through.

One of the great benefits I like about Ninite is that it handles updates as well. All you have to do is run the Ninite program from your computer whenever you want to upgrade LibreOffice.

The beauty of Ninite is that you can install/update multiple programs besides LibreOffice in one fell swoop, without the headache of managing each one whenever those programs notifies you of a new available version. Just close your programs, run Ninite and let it handle that for you!
